RECLAIMING YOUR STORY. RESTORING CONNECTION. REBUILDING SAFETY.

Experiencing sexual trauma, whether recent or long past, can alter how you see yourself, your body, and the world around you.

It’s common to carry confusion, shame, or self-blame long after the event. You might question whether what happened “counts,” or minimize your pain to make it feel more manageable. In this sexual trauma support group, we gently begin to name what happened, explore its impact, and begin the slow, meaningful work of integration — together.

Who is Our Sexual Trauma Group Therapy For?

This group welcomes adults of any gender identity in New York who have experienced:

  • Sexual assault, harassment, or coercion

  • “Grey area” sexual experiences that felt violating or confusing

  • Multiple sexual traumas or a pattern of repeated harm

You do not need to label your experience in order to join. Many participants enter group unsure of what to call what happened, and that’s okay. The process of naming and understanding often happens here, with support.

This group is LGBTQ+ affirming, sex-positive, and led from a feminist, trauma-informed lens.

What We Explore Together

Our work centers on helping you reclaim language, meaning, and connection after experiencing sexual trauma. With psycho-education, guided discussion, and supportive peer connection, you’ll:

  • Understand the definitions and nuances of sexual trauma, assault, and harassment

  • Learn about common trauma responses like self-blame and emotional numbing

  • Explore your thoughts, feelings, and fragments that may not yet form a coherent story

  • Find words, or other forms of expression, for experiences that may feel unspeakable

  • Rebuild trust with yourself and others at your own pace

Every person’s story is unique. There’s no pressure to share before you feel ready. Group members are encouraged to take things slowly and prioritize emotional safety.

NYC SUPPORT GROUP FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL TRAUMA

What are the Benefits of Group Therapy for Sexual Trauma Survivors?

Sexual trauma can make you feel painfully isolated. Hearing others name what you’ve felt but never said out loud can be profoundly healing. In this group, you’ll experience both universality (the comfort of realizing you’re not alone) and differentiation (the importance of your individual story).

Participants often describe group as the first space where they felt truly understood.

Each week offers opportunities to:

  • Receive validation and understanding from others who “get it”

  • Offer insight and support to newer members, creating an empowering shift from survivor to helper

  • Build community and connection through shared experience

Over time, members often become anchors for one another, reminding each other, “We’ve been here before, and we’ll help you move through this.”

What healing looks like here:

As trust builds, the group explores how trauma has shaped your sense of self and identity; your beliefs about safety, intimacy, and relationships; and the ways you move through the world since the event.

Together, we work toward integration, making meaning of what happened and finding a way to live forward.

You’ll have space to decide what (if anything) disclosure looks like for you, and how to identify safe people who can be compassionate witnesses to your story without judgment. This often starts with sharing first in the support group.

Why LEL Therapy?

At LEL Therapy, trauma-informed care isn’t a buzzword. It’s the foundation of everything we do. Our clinicians have deep experience supporting survivors of sexual trauma and related concerns, including eating disorders and body image struggles.

We understand that trauma isn’t logical and that language often fails to capture the depth of what you’ve been through. We meet you with respect, patience, and belief in your capacity to heal.

You don’t have to do this alone. Healing happens in relationship — let this group be one of them.
