Meet Brooke Thomas, MHC-LP
Brooke is supervised by Lauren Larkin, LMHC, NY #012386-01
Hi! I’m Brooke (she/her), a Mental Health Counselor. I’m glad you’re here!
Brooke is a New York City–based therapist who works with adults navigating eating disorders, substance use, anxiety, grief, body image concerns, and major life transitions. Her work is rooted in a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary approach that integrates relational therapy, psychodynamic insight, DBT skills, person-centered counseling, and existential thought.
Brooke is committed to providing culturally sensitive, social justice–oriented care and offers LGBTQIA+, HAES-aligned, and neurodivergent affirming treatment.
She believes therapy should be a space where clients feel safe enough to explore suffering honestly and empowered enough to move toward meaningful transformation.
Therapeutic Approach
Brooke approaches therapy with curiosity, depth, and compassion. Her philosophy is based in existential thought, recognizing that suffering is an inherent part of the human experience. And that when explored safely, it can become a catalyst for growth and profound change.
She creates a nonjudgmental, collaborative space where clients can explore their inner world, integrate trauma, and develop resilience and self-acceptance. Brooke combines practical skill-building (drawing from DBT and other behavioral approaches) with deeper relational and psychodynamic exploration, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique goals.
While she specializes in eating disorders and substance use, she also works with anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, and identity development. Brooke works exclusively with adults in individual therapy.
Specialties & Interests
Brooke specializes in outpatient eating disorder treatment and substance use recovery, working primarily with adults. She is especially passionate about supporting young women struggling with eating disorders, body image concerns, and self-esteem, though she welcomes adults of all genders and identities. Even when clients do not meet full diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder, she often supports individuals navigating complex relationships with food and body. Brooke practices from a Health At Every Size-aligned framework, believing all bodies are deserving of respect and excellent clinical treatment.
With over two years of experience in substance use treatment, including work with court-mandated clients in an outpatient setting, Brooke is comfortable addressing addiction, recovery, and the emotional underpinnings of substance use. She also works with trauma survivors, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and relationship challenges, helping clients develop both insight and tangible coping tools.
Education & Credentials
Brooke holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Indiana University – Bloomington (2018) and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University (2024).
Prior to joining LEL Therapy, Brooke worked at a private practice in NYC supporting young adults navigating anxiety, grief, self-esteem, body image, and relationship challenges. She also works at an outpatient substance use treatment center based in Colorado, serving adults in court-mandated drug and alcohol treatment programs.
She is currently practicing under the supervision of Lauren Larkin, LMHC (NY License #012386-01) as she completes post-graduate clinical hours toward full licensure.
Professional Development
Brooke regularly engages in both individual and group supervision to deepen her clinical skills and ensure ethical, thoughtful care. She attends conferences such as Esther Perel’s Sessions Live, stays current through research and professional literature, and consults with other therapists. She also listens to mental health podcasts and remains actively engaged in continued learning within the field.
Her Inspiration to Become a Therapist
Brooke’s path into therapy is deeply personal. Her inspiration to become a therapist comes from her own experience with an eating disorder. Her recovery would not have been possible without the support of a therapist, and she is passionate about creating a space where others can find their own path toward healing.
During the early years of her eating disorder, Brooke experienced profound isolation and helplessness, unaware that meaningful support was available. Today, she strives to ensure her clients know that recovery is possible and that they do not have to navigate suffering alone.
She feels honored to witness the complexity of her clients’ inner worlds and brings thoughtful vulnerability into the room when it serves the work. Brooke finds it deeply meaningful to walk alongside clients as they begin to shift how they see themselves. Watching someone move toward greater self-compassion, kindness, and belonging is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.
She believes wholeheartedly that all humans are worthy of love and connection, especially from themselves.
When Brooke Isn’t Working
Outside of session, Brooke loves to read, cook, crochet, and explore new restaurants around the city. She enjoys live music (especially jazz bars), listening to podcasts, and keeping up with newly released films. She makes it a point to watch all of the award-nominated movies each year.
Having grown up in Colorado, she loves hiking, skiing, camping, and traveling whenever she can. She treasures time with friends and family and is a proud cat mom to her 1.5-year-old black cat, Draco, whom she adores and treats as if she birthed him herself.
